Its geological story reads like a creation myth. Oregon Sunstone formed in volcanic lava flows rich in copper. Native copper platelets became locked inside the feldspar crystal lattice, creating its distinctive shimmer, known as aventurescence. It is the only gem feldspar in North America colored by copper.

Its alternative name is Heliolite, from the Greek helios (sun) and lithos (stone). The name was born from the ancient belief that the sun was a living god. Native Americans valued Oregon Sunstone deeply, trading it across western America and using it in Medicine Wheel ceremonies. It has been found in burial sites and sacred bundles, a stone treated with reverence across generations.
