Balance & Peace
Balance is not a static state. It is not something you achieve and then maintain without effort. It is a dynamic process, a constant small adjustment, the way a tightrope walker is always moving rather than standing still. Peace is similar: not the absence of difficulty but the presence of enough steadiness to meet difficulty without being undone by it. The stones in this collection are chosen for their association with those qualities: selenite, lepidolite, blue lace agate, howlite, chrysocolla. All of them pale, cool, and quiet in color. All of them associated across traditions with the calming of the nervous system, the slowing of the mind, and the return to center after being pulled away from it.
Not the absence of difficulty. The presence of enough steadiness to meet it.
Selenite
A crystalline form of gypsum forming in long translucent white blades. Named for Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. Found in Morocco, Mexico, and the United States, with some of the finest specimens coming from the Cave of the Crystals in Naica, Mexico, where individual crystals reach up to 11 meters in length. Associated with clarity, cleansing, and the clearing of accumulated tension and mental residue. For balance and peace work, selenite supports the quality of stillness: the ability to stop, to clear, to return to a neutral state before responding. Keep away from water, which will dissolve it over time. One of the softest stones in the collection at 2 on the Mohs scale.
Lepidolite
A lithium-rich mica mineral occurring in lavender to purple, sometimes with pink or grey tones. Found primarily in Brazil, Russia, and the United States. Contains lithium, the same element used in psychiatric medication for mood stabilization. Associated with calm, emotional balance, and the reduction of anxiety and mental chatter. For balance and peace work, lepidolite is the most directly relevant stone in the collection: it addresses the specific experience of an overactive mind and the physical tension that accompanies it. One of the more unusual stones in terms of its mineral composition and one of the most consistently useful for people who carry stress in the body.
Blue Lace Agate
A banded chalcedony occurring in pale blue with white lace-like banding, found primarily in Namibia and South Africa. One of the softest-looking stones in the collection, with a color that reads as genuinely calming rather than decoratively blue. Associated with calm communication, the reduction of anxiety around self-expression, and the quality of gentle, patient presence. For balance and peace work, blue lace agate supports the throat and the breath: the ability to speak calmly, to breathe fully, and to slow down the pace of interaction when everything is moving too fast.
Howlite
A calcium borosilicate hydroxide mineral occurring in white to grey with grey veining, found primarily in Canada and the United States. One of the most porous stones in common use, which is why it is frequently dyed to imitate turquoise or other stones. Natural howlite is white to grey and has its own quiet beauty. Associated with calm, patience, and the reduction of anger and overreaction. For balance and peace work, howlite supports the quality of pause: the ability to stop before responding, to let the first reaction pass before acting on it.
Chrysocolla
A hydrated copper phyllosilicate mineral occurring in blue-green to turquoise, often found alongside malachite, azurite, and turquoise in copper deposits. Found in the American Southwest, Peru, Chile, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The color comes from copper, the same element that gives malachite its green and azurite its blue. Associated with calm, communication, and the expression of difficult things with gentleness rather than force. For balance and peace work, chrysocolla supports the quality of equanimity: the ability to hold complexity without being destabilized by it. One of the more visually striking stones in this collection, with a color that ranges from pale aqua through deep teal.
Materials and Care
All pieces are set in electroformed copper or wire-wrapped brass, handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Selenite must be kept away from water. Remove all pieces before water and chemicals. Store dry. Copper develops a natural patina over time.
