The third eye chakra, Ajna, sits between and slightly above the eyebrows. It is the sixth energy center in the chakra system, governing perception, intuition, and the capacity to see beyond what is immediately visible. Its element is light. Its color is indigo. When it is open and balanced, there is a quality of clear inner knowing, the ability to read a situation accurately, to trust what you perceive, to distinguish between what is real and what is projection. When it is closed, everything feels uncertain and the mind second-guesses itself constantly. The Third Eye Chakra
In the chakra system originating in ancient Indian tantric traditions, Ajna is the sixth of seven energy centers. It is associated with the pineal gland in some traditions, with the faculty of imagination and inner vision in others. Its practices include meditation, visualization, dream work, and the cultivation of attention. Third eye work is not about developing psychic abilities in a supernatural sense. Amethyst
A purple variety of quartz, colored by iron impurities and natural irradiation. Ranges from pale lavender through deep violet-purple. Found in Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia, and Madagascar. One of the most widely used stones for meditation and intuitive work across cultures and centuries. Associated with calm, clarity, and the quieting of mental noise that makes deeper perception possible. The February birthstone. Store away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Labradorite
A feldspar mineral with labradorescence, an iridescent optical phenomenon producing shifting blues, greens, and golds as the stone moves. Found primarily in Labrador, Canada, as well as Finland and Madagascar. Associated with intuition, psychic protection, and the strengthening of the inner life. For the third eye, labradorite is particularly useful for the boundary work of perception: amplifying what you sense while filtering out what is not yours. Lapis Lazuli
A metamorphic rock composed primarily of lazurite, with calcite and pyrite inclusions that produce the characteristic gold flecks against deep blue. One of the oldest stones used in art and adornment, mined in Afghanistan for over six thousand years and used in ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek, and Roman contexts. Ground into ultramarine pigment for Renaissance paintings. Associated with truth, wisdom, and the clarity of perception that comes from genuine self-knowledge. The gold pyrite inclusions against the deep blue are visually distinctive and make each piece unique.
Fluorite
Calcium fluoride forming in cubic crystals, occurring in a wide range of colors including purple, green, blue, yellow, and colorless. Often banded or zoned with multiple colors in a single specimen. Found worldwide, with notable deposits in China, Mexico, and the United States. Associated with mental clarity, focus, and the organization of complex information. For the third eye, fluorite supports the analytical dimension of intuition: the ability to process what you perceive and make sense of it.
Iolite
A magnesium iron aluminum silicate mineral with strong pleochroism, meaning it shows different colors when viewed from different angles: violet-blue from one direction, pale yellow-grey from another. Found in India, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Brazil. Historically used by Viking navigators as a polarizing filter to locate the sun on overcast days, earning it the name Viking compass stone. Associated with inner vision, navigation through uncertainty, and the trust required to follow intuition when the path is not clearly visible.
Azurite
A copper carbonate hydroxide mineral occurring in deep azure blue, often found alongside malachite in copper deposits. Found in Morocco, China, Australia, and the American Southwest. One of the most intensely colored blue minerals in the natural world. Associated with insight, mental clarity, and the deepening of intuitive perception. Relatively soft at 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale and sensitive to heat and prolonged light exposure. Best suited for earrings and pendants rather than rings for daily wear.
Sodalite
A sodium aluminum silicate chloride mineral occurring in royal blue to grey-blue, typically with white calcite veining. Found primarily in Brazil, Canada, and Namibia. Often confused with lapis lazuli but distinguishable by its lack of pyrite inclusions and its more uniform blue-grey color. Associated with rational thought, intuition, and the integration of logic and inner knowing. For the third eye, sodalite supports the grounded, practical dimension of perception: the ability to trust what you sense without losing your footing in the everyday world.
Materials and Care
All pieces are set in electroformed copper or wire-wrapped brass, handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Azurite is soft and sensitive to heat and light. Amethyst should be stored away from direct sunlight. Remove all pieces before water and chemicals. Store dry. Copper develops a natural patina over time.
