This crescent moon opal ring features a genuine 4mm natural opal set into a copper crescent moon, its surface displaying the shifting play-of-color that makes opal unlike any other stone — flashes of blue, green, and gold that move as the light changes. Copper grows around both the stone and the crescent form. A luminous, quietly magical presence for daily wear. A ring that catches the light in a way that’s hard to explain until you see it on your hand.

Opal is associated with inspiration, emotional balance, and creative expression. The October birthstone. A crown chakra stone. Wear it when you need to feel alive and open to possibility.

Why Opal

Opal is a naturally occurring hydrated amorphous silica, its extraordinary play-of-color — shifting flashes of spectral color — the result of light diffracting through its internal silica sphere structure. Found primarily in Australia, which produces over 90% of the world’s precious opal, as well as Ethiopia and Mexico. A traditional October birthstone, associated with the crown chakra (Sahasrara). Long associated with inspiration, creativity, and emotional sensitivity. No two opals display the same pattern of color. No mystical claims. Just one of the most optically remarkable minerals on earth.

How This Handmade Opal Ring Is Made

Each crescent moon opal ring is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select every opal for its play-of-color, then set it into a copper crescent moon form using traditional electroforming techniques. Copper grows directly around the stone and the crescent through an electrical process, forming the band organically. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every handmade ring from this studio is one of a kind.

Sizing

Not sure of your size? How to measure your ring size at home →

Select your US ring size at checkout. Sizes 5–9 including half sizes are listed as variants; need a size outside that range? Select “Custom” and enter your size (US 4–15) in the order notes. Between sizes? Size up for comfort. Need help? Email hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com and I’ll guide you through it.

Care

Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions. Store dry. Opal contains water in its structure and can crack if exposed to extreme dryness or heat — avoid prolonged direct sunlight and temperature extremes. Let the antique patina deepen naturally with wear, or polish gently with a soft cloth to brighten.

Gift Packaging

Every order arrives gift-ready with natural materials and a handwritten note card. Add your message in the order notes.

About Electroforming

Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.

Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.

For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina

Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.

Copper Protection

Embrace the Patina

Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.

Why add lacquer?

  • Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
  • Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
  • Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
  • Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry

Details:

  • Optional upgrade available for $5
  • Applied directly to your copper ring, cuff, or bracelet before shipping
  • Clear finish — no change to the look or feel of your piece
