Freshwater Pearl Earrings: Materials & Specifications
- Stone: Natural freshwater pearl, approximately 7mm, smooth, soft white with natural luster. Stones are matched for size and tone; slight natural variation is expected.
- Metal: Electroformed copper. Antique finish with living patina.
- Finding: Niobium ear wires (hypoallergenic, ideal for sensitive ears).
- Dimensions: Approximately 32mm (1.25 inch) drop per earring.
- Weight: Approximately 28g (1 oz) per pair. Lightweight for all-day wear.

How These Handmade Gemstone Earrings Are Made
Each pair of freshwater pearl earrings is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select and match every pearl for its luster and soft color, then encase each one in copper using traditional electroforming techniques. Copper grows directly around the pearl through an electrical process. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every handmade gemstone earring pair from this studio is one of a kind.
A Note on Stone Matching
Because these are natural gems, each pair is matched by hand for size and color. Slight variation between the two pearls is part of what makes them handmade and real.
Care
Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions — pearls are sensitive to acids and chemicals, including perfume. Put them on last. Wipe gently after wear with a soft cloth. Store dry and away from other jewelry to avoid scratching the nacre. Polish copper with a soft cloth to maintain shine or let the patina deepen naturally. Niobium ear wires are included and are hypoallergenic; if you prefer a different finding, contact hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com.

Each crystal is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All earrings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.
For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.
Wearing & Comfort
The ear wires are made from hypoallergenic niobium, sterling silver or brass to ensure safe, comfortable wear for most skin types. Each earring is lightweight enough for daily use yet strong enough to withstand regular movement. Avoid tugging or sleeping in your earrings to preserve their form.
Most ear wires can be interchangable, message me if you need a different option.
