RAW CRYSTAL COLLECTION

Raw stones are not unfinished. They are finished by the earth, not by a lapidary wheel. The crystals in this collection are set exactly as they came out of the ground — rough surfaces, natural points, irregular edges, the color and form that millions of years of geological process produced. Electroformed copper grows around each stone without altering its shape. What you wear is the stone as it actually is.

Unpolished. Unaltered. Exactly as the earth made it.

Why Raw

Polished stones are beautiful. Raw stones are honest. The facets on a cut gem are imposed by a human hand. The surface of a raw crystal is a record of how it grew — the temperature, the pressure, the mineral-rich water that moved through the rock over thousands or millions of years. A raw amethyst cluster shows you the actual crystal structure. A raw labradorite slab shows you the layers. A raw quartz point shows you the termination exactly as it formed. Nothing has been removed or smoothed over.

The Stones

This collection draws from across the full range of raw gemstones we work with: amethyst clusters and points, raw labradorite slabs, rough quartz crystals, raw garnet, unpolished turquoise, raw citrine, black tourmaline rods, and more. Each stone is selected by hand for its color, form, and character. No two are identical.

The Electroforming Process

Raw stones present a particular challenge for setting — their irregular surfaces and sharp edges make traditional prong or bezel settings difficult or impossible. Electroforming solves this by growing copper directly onto the stone's surface through an electrical current in a copper sulfate solution. The copper follows every contour of the stone, building up a solid setting that holds the stone without altering it. The process takes hours and produces a setting that is literally grown around the stone.

Sizing and Availability

Because raw stones vary significantly in size and shape, most pieces in this collection are made to order around the specific stone. Ring sizes are made to your specification. Statement pieces are one of a kind. Check individual listings for details on sizing and availability.

Care

Remove before water, swimming, and lotions. Store dry. Some raw stones have porous surfaces — turquoise and opal in particular should be kept away from chemicals and prolonged moisture. Copper develops a natural patina over time. The patina is not damage.
