Jet black onyx, smooth and quietly striking, set in the curve of an electroformed copper crescent. Black against copper is one of those combinations that reads immediately, bold without being loud, and the onyx holds the warmth of the metal without competing with it. This ring is for the ones who are drawn to something grounded and protective, a piece that settles into your daily wear and stays there. The open adjustable band fits a wide range of sizes and pairs naturally with almost anything.
Black onyx is associated with protection, grounding, strength, and inner resilience. It is connected to the root chakra and the energy of steadiness and shielding. Wear it when you need to feel anchored, clear, and protected.
Why Black Onyx
Onyx is a variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz, with a parallel banded structure. Black onyx, often dyed to achieve uniform deep black, has been used in jewelry and protective talismans across cultures for thousands of years, from ancient Egypt and Rome through Victorian mourning jewelry and beyond. Its smooth dense surface takes a high polish that gives it a distinctive quiet luster. No mystical claims. Just a deeply striking stone with a meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Black Onyx Moon Ring Is Made
Each onyx cabochon is hand-selected for its depth of color and smooth dome before the copper crescent is built up around it through an electrolytic electroforming process. The copper grows organically around the stone and setting, creating a granular textured surface completely unique to each piece. The antique finish deepens the warmth of the copper and creates striking contrast against the smooth black stone.
A Note on Stone Variation
Black onyx is a natural stone and each cabochon may vary very slightly in surface finish and depth of black. Your ring will be similar to the one shown but entirely one of a kind.
Care
Black onyx is a durable stone but avoid hard impacts. Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying lotions and perfumes. Store dry. The antique copper finish will develop a natural patina over time, deepening the character of the piece.

About Electroforming
Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.
Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.
For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina
Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.
Copper Protection
Embrace the Patina
Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.
Why add lacquer?
- Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
- Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
- Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
- Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry
