This black tourmaline crescent moon necklace holds three semi-tumbled tourmaline stones set into a handcrafted copper crescent, each stone nestled in the curve of the moon like something gathered and kept. Black tourmaline has been used as a protective stone across cultures for centuries, and the crescent has carried meaning just as long, cycles, thresholds, the space between one thing and the next. Together they make a piece that feels grounded and considered, the kind of necklace you reach for when you want to feel steady. This is a piece for the person who finds comfort in symbols that have meant something for a very long time.
Black tourmaline is associated with grounding, protection, and energetic shielding. Root chakra. Wear it when you need to feel steady and clear.
Why Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline, also known as schorl, is a boron silicate mineral found in granite and metamorphic rock. Its deep black color comes from high iron content. Long associated with grounding and protection across cultures. Root chakra. Chosen for its deep black color, its raw striated form, and its grounding quality. No mystical claims. Just a genuinely distinctive stone with a meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Gemstone Necklace Is Made
Each black tourmaline crescent moon necklace is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select and arrange three semi-tumbled tourmaline stones within a copper crescent moon formed and finished by hand through an electroforming process. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every piece is one of a kind.
A Note on Stone Variation
Because these are natural semi-tumbled tourmaline stones, each set varies in size, striations, and arrangement. No two pieces are identical.
Care
Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions. Store dry. Black tourmaline is relatively durable but avoid hard impacts. Polish copper with a soft cloth to maintain shine or let the patina deepen naturally over time.
Gift Packaging
Every order arrives gift-ready with natural materials and a handwritten note card. Add your message in the order notes.

Materials & Metals
Each necklace is handcrafted from raw copper, and may include elements of brass, bronze, silver, or stainless steel, paired with carefully chosen stones, crystals, or natural elements.
Every piece is shaped by hand through the slow process of electroforming — a melding of earth, metal, and time that creates unique textures and forms.
All metals are nickel-free and sealed for comfortable, daily wear. Slight variations in color, texture, or patina are natural signs of the handmade process — each one-of-a-kind, just like its wearer.
Chain Options
Necklaces are available in a variety of lengths to fit every ritual and style:
- 16–18 inches – sits high at the collarbone
- 20–22 inches – a classic mid-chest length
- 24–30 inches – longer talisman style for layering
Chain styles may include cable, rolo, or oxidized link, chosen to complement each pendant’s design.
Leather Option
Select designs feature a soft, durable leather cord, fully adjustable from 12 to 24 inches.
Leather cords offer a grounded, natural feel and can be worn short as a choker or long for layering — making them versatile for both men’s and women’s styles.
Care & Maintenance
All metals and leather will naturally age with time and wear — it’s part of their alchemy.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth. To preserve patina or aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place. Avoid prolonged contact with water, lotion, or perfume.
Remove before showering or swimming. Use a soft cloth; avoid abrasive polishing on patinated copper.
Copper Protection
Embrace the Patina
Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.
Why add lacquer?
- Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
- Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
- Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
- Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry
