This raw black tourmaline ring features a genuine small raw black tourmaline in deep, absorbing black, its natural unpolished surfaces angular and earthy, as copper grows directly around it in your choice of bright or antique finish. Dainty enough to stack, grounding enough to anchor the whole stack. A protective presence for daily wear — worn alone as a minimal statement or layered with your other rings as the dark, earthy base of a curated stack.

Black tourmaline is associated with grounding, protection, and steady resilience. A root chakra stone. Wear it when you need to feel anchored and clear.

Why Raw Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline is a naturally occurring boron silicate mineral, its deep black color the result of iron and manganese content. One of the most widely used protective stones across cultures and traditions. Long associated with grounding and protection, and with the root chakra (Muladhara). It is chosen in its raw, unpolished form so the crystal’s natural geometry and angular surfaces are fully preserved — the copper grows around the stone exactly as it is. No mystical claims. Just a beautiful stone with a meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Tourmaline Ring Is Made

Each raw black tourmaline ring is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select every raw crystal for its natural form and character, then encase it in copper using traditional electroforming techniques. Copper grows directly around the stone through an electrical process, following every angular surface of the raw tourmaline exactly. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every handmade ring from this studio is one of a kind.

About Electroforming

Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.

Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.

For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina

Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.

Copper Protection

Embrace the Patina

Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.

Why add lacquer?

  • Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
  • Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
  • Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
  • Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry

Details:
