This tanzanite ring features a genuine 4mm round cabochon in deep violet-blue, its small polished surface shifting between indigo and violet depending on the light, as warm copper wraps the stone completely. One of the most dainty rings in the studio — a quiet, minimalist presence that layers beautifully or stands alone as a subtle statement. A piece you can reach for every day without thinking about it.

Tanzanite is associated with calm focus, spiritual clarity, and transformation. Wear it when you need to feel clear and composed.

Why Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a naturally occurring calcium aluminum silicate, found only in a small area near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania — one of the rarest gemstones on earth. Its deep violet-blue color is the result of trace vanadium and its strong trichroism, shifting between blue, violet, and burgundy depending on the angle of light. Long associated with calm and transformation. It is chosen for its rare violet-blue depth, its dainty round form, and its quiet, clarifying energy. No mystical claims. Just a rare and beautiful stone with a meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Gemstone Ring Is Made

Each tanzanite ring is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select every stone for its color depth and violet-blue quality, then encase it in copper using traditional electroforming techniques. Copper grows directly around the stone through an electrical process, forming the band organically. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every handmade gemstone ring from this studio is one of a kind.

Sizing

Select your US ring size at checkout. Sizes 5–9 are listed as variants; need a size outside that range? Select “Custom” and enter your size (US 4–15) in the order notes. Between sizes? Size up for comfort. Need help? Email hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com and I’ll guide you through it.

Care

Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions. Store dry. Avoid sudden temperature changes — tanzanite is sensitive to thermal shock. Tanzanite is relatively soft at 6–7 Mohs — treat gently to avoid impacts and scratches. Polish copper with a soft cloth if desired.

About Electroforming

Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.

Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.

For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina

Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.

Copper Protection

Embrace the Patina

Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.

Why add lacquer?

  • Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
  • Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
  • Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
  • Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry

Details:

  • Optional upgrade available for $5

  • Clear finish — no change to the look or feel of your piece
