Black tourmaline is associated with grounding, protection, and clearing negative energy. A stone for strength and energetic boundaries.
Why Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral found in granite and metamorphic rock. Long associated with grounding and energetic protection. It is chosen for its deep black color, its raw striated form, and its grounding quality. No mystical claims. Just a striking stone with a strong, steady meaning that fits real life.

How This Handmade Gemstone Ring Is Made
Each large black tourmaline ring is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. With a stone this size, the electroforming process takes even longer, copper slowly building into a wide band that supports and showcases the crystal. The result is organic texture, powerful presence, and one-of-a-kind beauty. No two rings are identical.
Sizing
Select your US ring size at checkout (4–15 available). Due to the wide band and large stone, size up if between sizes. The band requires a little more room to slide over the knuckle. Need help? Email hello@blackbirdsagestudio.com and I’ll guide you through it.
Care
Remove before swimming, showering, or applying lotions. Store dry. The copper patina will deepen naturally over time. Black tourmaline is durable (7–7.5 Mohs) but avoid impacts, the large stone can chip.
Gift Packaging
Every order arrives gift-ready with natural materials and a handwritten note card. Add your message in the order notes.

About Electroforming
Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.
Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.
For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina
Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.
Copper Protection
Embrace the Patina
Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.
Why add lacquer?
- Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
- Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
- Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
- Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry
