This is a statement ring. The kind you notice before anything else.

A large raw black tourmaline rod, measuring approximately 10 to 15mm in its natural unpolished form, fully encased in electroformed copper that grows directly around the stone. The result is a setting that fits the crystal exactly, organic and secure, with the kind of texture that only comes from working by hand. Choose your finish at checkout: bright copper for warm, clean contrast, or antique copper for a deeper, aged character that suits the stone's natural darkness.

Black tourmaline is one of the most grounding stones in the natural world. Worn for centuries by travelers and those navigating difficult transitions as a simple, wearable anchor. It helps you feel steady. Present. Rooted. Just a stone with a long, honest history of keeping people grounded.

Why Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline is a variety of the tourmaline mineral group known as schorl, colored by iron within its crystal structure. The name schorl predates modern mineralogy and has been in use for centuries. Found worldwide including Brazil, Africa, Pakistan, and the United States. Long associated with grounding, protection, and steadiness across many cultures. Chosen for its deep black color, its natural striated rod form that makes each stone visually striking, and its quiet, anchoring presence. No medical claims. No mystical promises. Just a beautiful, grounding stone with a long history of being worn close.

Raw Black Tourmaline Statement Ring: Materials and Specifications

Gemstone: Natural raw black tourmaline (schorl), approximately 10 to 15mm rod form. Unpolished. Natural striations and crystal faces visible. Each stone is unique.
Metal: Electroformed copper. Copper grows directly around the stone through an electrical process, forming a solid, one-of-a-kind setting.
Finish: Choose at checkout. Bright copper for a warm, clean look. Antique copper for a deeper, aged patina.
Sizing: Available in sizes 1 to 16, including quarter and half sizes. Select your size from the dropdown. If your size is not listed, choose Custom and include your ring size in the order notes at checkout.
Fit Note: This ring is top-heavy by nature of the large stone. If you plan to wear it on your index finger or little finger, consider sizing down by 0.25 to 0.5. When in doubt, size down rather than up.
Lead Time: Made to order. Ships in 4 to 5 business days.
Origin: Handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

How This Handmade Black Tourmaline Ring Is Made

Each raw black tourmaline statement ring is made to order in my small Santa Fe studio. I hand-select every tourmaline rod for its natural form and depth of color, then encase it in copper using traditional electroforming techniques. Copper grows directly around the stone through an electrical process, one slow layer at a time, until the setting is solid and complete. The finish is applied by hand. No mass production, no shortcuts. Every ring from this studio is one of a kind.

Care

Remove before swimming, showering, heavy activity, or applying lotions. Store dry. Wipe gently with a soft cloth. For bright copper, a light buff with a jewelry polishing cloth will maintain the shine. For antique copper, avoid polishing, which will remove the aged patina. Black tourmaline is a durable stone but avoid impact on the raw crystal faces.

Gift Packaging

Every order arrives gift-ready with natural materials and a handwritten note card. Add your message in the order notes.

About Electroforming

Electroforming is an ancient technique reimagined for modern jewelry.
Copper molecules bond to each stone over several hours, creating organic textures and secure settings. Learn more about our process.

Each ring is electroformed in pure copper, a process that uses electricity to slowly grow metal over organic forms, stone, or wax-carved bases.
This ancient-meets-modern technique creates natural textures and one-of-a-kind variations — no two pieces will ever be the same.
All rings are nickel-free, can be sealed for daily wear, and finished by hand in our Santa Fe studio.

For centuries, copper has been worn as a grounding element — believed to balance energy, support circulation, and keep the wearer anchored in presence. It reminds us of our connection to the earth and our ability to return to stillness.

Care & Patina

Electroformed copper develops a natural patina over time — deepening into warm, earthy tones that tell the story of your wear.
To maintain brightness, polish gently with a soft cloth or a touch of lemon and salt.
To preserve the aged finish, simply wipe clean and store in a dry place.
Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, or applying lotions, as moisture may alter the patina over time.

Copper Protection

Embrace the Patina

Some collectors love the rich, aged look that copper develops over time. This natural patina tells a story—of adventures taken, energies absorbed, and the passage of time. If you resonate with that earthy, vintage look, feel free to let your copper evolve organically.

Why add lacquer?

  • Slows the natural darkening (patina) of copper
  • Minimizes the chance of skin reactions
  • Keeps copper looking brighter for longer
  • Protects while preserving the earthy character of your jewelry

Details:

  • Optional upgrade available for $5
  • Applied directly to your copper ring, cuff, or bracelet before shipping
  • Clear finish — no change to the look or feel of your piece
