Black Tourmaline

A boron silicate mineral forming in long striated rods, found in granite and metamorphic rock worldwide. One of the most widely used protective stones across traditions. Associated with energetic boundaries, grounding, and deflection of negative energy. Piezoelectric — it generates a small electrical charge under pressure, which may contribute to its long reputation as a protective stone. Durable for everyday wear.

Obsidian

Volcanic glass formed when lava cools so rapidly that crystals cannot form. One of the oldest tools in human history — used for cutting blades, arrowheads, and mirrors for thousands of years across Mesoamerica, the Mediterranean, and beyond. Black, glassy, and completely non-porous. Associated with truth, protection, and the clearing of illusion. Raw obsidian has a conchoidal fracture and sharp edges. Avoid hard impacts.

Shungite

A carbon-based mineraloid found almost exclusively in the Karelia region of Russia, estimated to be around two billion years old. Contains fullerenes — hollow carbon molecules that have been the subject of scientific research for their unusual properties. Used historically near Lake Onega as a water purifier. Associated with protection, purification, and grounding. One of the more unusual stones we work with, both in origin and appearance.

Selenite

A crystalline form of gypite (calcium sulfate), forming in long translucent white or pale grey blades and wands. Named for Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. Soft and relatively fragile — it can be scratched with a fingernail and should be kept away from water, which will dissolve it over time. Associated with clarity, cleansing, and the clearing of stagnant energy. Often used to cleanse other stones.

Jet

Not a mineral but a gemstone formed from ancient wood that has been compressed and carbonized over millions of years — essentially a form of coal. Lightweight, warm to the touch, and deeply black. Used in mourning jewelry in Victorian England and as a protective amulet in ancient Rome and pre-Columbian cultures. Associated with protection, grief, and the safe passage through difficult transitions.

Materials and Care

All pieces are set in electroformed copper or wire-wrapped brass, handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Selenite must be kept away from water. Remove all pieces before swimming, bathing, and applying lotions. Store dry. Copper develops a natural patina over time.
