Opal

Opal is not a crystalline mineral — it is a hardened silica gel, formed from water and silicon dioxide that seeped into rock crevices over millions of years. The play of color, called opalescence, is caused by the diffraction of light through microscopic silica spheres arranged in a grid. The more regular the arrangement, the more vivid the color play. No two opals are identical. The stone you receive will shift differently in your light than it does in anyone else's.

Opal is associated with creativity, imagination, and seeing multiple perspectives at once. It has been called the stone of inspiration. It is also one of the more delicate gemstones — porous, sensitive to heat and dryness, and best kept away from chemicals and prolonged sun exposure.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral that occurs in more colors than almost any other gem. The same crystal can shift from pink at one end to green at the other — this is watermelon tourmaline, named for the cross-section it reveals when sliced. Black tourmaline (schorl) is the most common variety and one of the most widely used protective stones across cultures. Pink tourmaline is associated with the heart. Green with growth and vitality.

All pieces are set in electroformed copper or wire-wrapped brass, handcrafted in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Opal requires extra care — remove before water, heat, and chemicals, and store away from direct sunlight. Tourmaline is more durable but still benefits from dry storage and gentle handling. Copper develops a natural patina over time.
