What Makes a Roots Piece

Every piece in this collection has a track record. These are not new experiments or limited runs — they are the rings, earrings, necklaces, and cuffs that customers come back for, that get gifted and then ordered again by the recipient, that hold up to daily wear and develop a patina that makes them look better over time. The stones are chosen for their character. The copper is grown around them through electroforming, not cast or stamped. Each piece is made by hand in small batches.

The Stones

The Roots Collection draws primarily from the grounding and protective stones that define the Blackbird and Sage aesthetic: black tourmaline, obsidian, moonstone, labradorite, turquoise, garnet, and raw quartz. Dense, dark, rooted stones alongside the luminous and the shifting. Stones with history and meaning that accumulates over time, not just at the moment of purchase.

Electroformed Copper

Every metal setting in this collection is electroformed — copper deposited through an electrical current directly onto the stone, building up a solid setting that grew around the stone's natural shape. The process takes hours and cannot be rushed. The result is organic, textured, and unique to each piece. No two are identical because no two stones are identical and no two electroforming sessions produce exactly the same result.

A Note on Bestsellers

Bestsellers in a handmade studio are different from bestsellers in mass production. These pieces sell consistently not because they are the cheapest or the most marketed, but because they are the ones people reach for when they want something real. They are the pieces that photograph well on real people, that hold up to daily life, and that mean something to the person wearing them.

Care

Remove before water, swimming, and lotions. Store dry. Copper develops a natural patina over time — a warm darkening that most people prefer. Polish gently with a soft cloth if you want a brighter finish. The patina is not damage. It is how copper ages.
